Thivanthi Perara

Thivanthi is Sri Lankan and comes from a musical family. She began learning the piano at the age of two. After completing a series of exams in both the ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall as well as from a locally based examination board (the IWMS), Thivanthi began learning the violin from the age of eight.

After winning a singing competition at her alma mater, Ladies College, Colombo, Thivanthi began voice training at the age of fourteen and has excelled obtaining a Dip.ABRSM and an ATCL qualification. She currently holds a LTCL and LRSM in piano and an ATCL in violin.

In 2004, at the age of twelve, she joined the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL) as a violinist and has continued to perform with them. She also had her debut as a soloist with the SOSL singing works by Mozart and Puccini in 2012. Later she joined the Kransa Chamber Ensemble as the principal viola player and continued to perform in the ‘Opus’ String quartet in and out of Sri Lanka as the violist. She also has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Colombo.

Thivanthi also had the opportunity to study the violin and piano at a summer school for music in Graz, Austria, in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Thivanthi has been teaching music to a wide range of children and adults. She also trained the Ladies College senior choir for six years.

Thivanthi has organised and performed at many fundraisers in Sri Lanka and has been a part of raising awareness about classical music to youngsters through the “Harmonic Conspiracies” series launched by her friends and herself. She enjoys composing hymns and arranging choral music. Her compositions have been performed by the Ladies’ college choir on many occasions including at the South Asia Pacific Choir Games in 2017.

A part from a career in music from a young age, Thivanthi has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Counselling which has proved beneficial in her daily work as a teacher and performer. Besides music Thivanthi enjoys reading, painting and travelling.  

Thivanthi joined CMA in January 2018.
